Bridgepoint Development Capital has acquired BigHand, the digital dication company, in a deal worth £49m. Partner Alan Payne said it believed the market for voice productivity "still has further to go" as the spread of mobile devices continues and voice to text conversion technology continues to improve. BigHand chief executive Jon Ardron said the acquisition would be good news for its clients, because it would lead to investment in products for new and existing markets.

Thornhills Medical Practice in Maidstone, Kent, has adopted a digital dictation system from BigHand to replace its analogue tape system. Doctors in the practice can now send all their dications to a fully customisable workflow that is monitored by its secretaries. This means that tapes no longer go missing, and sound quality and turnaround times have improved.
