At least four southern trusts plan for Lorenzo

At least four hospitals in the South of England intend to implement Lorenzo, according to informatics plans, with community and mental health trusts taking systems from both TPP and CSE-Servelec.

In NHS South Central, several hospital trusts that have yet to receive a system under the National Programme for IT in the NHS appear to be planning for a move to Lorenzo.

The informatics plan from NHS Hampshire, obtained by GP Dr Neil Bhatia under the Freedom of Information Act, reveals that Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust plans to implement Lorenzo in 2010/11 “if [it] provides required functionality.”

Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is renewing its patient administration system contract for three years but will also implement Lorenzo “once tried and test and delivering benefits.”

Southampton University Hospitals Trust is replacing its current PAS with an internal solution with a potential future move to Lorenzo, while Basingstoke and North Hampshire NHS Foundation Trust is at options appraisal stage with both BT and CSC, according to the informatics plan.

As things stand, that would leave Winchester and Eastleigh Hospitals NHS Trust, which is already live with Cerner’s Millennium, as the only hospital trust in NHS Hampshire using iSoft's system.

The informatics plan says: “Most providers are actively engaged with one or both LSPs and planning for the implementation of a CRS.”

Hampshire Community Health Care and Southampton City Community Services plan to take community systems from TPP in this financial year while Portsmouth City Community Services and Hampshire Partnership NHS Trust plan to install CSE-Servelec’s RiO.

Elsewhere in NHS South Central, Isle of Wight PCT plans to deploy iSoft’s Lorenzo into its acute and mental health settings and TPP’s SystmOne for child health and community services.

Its Operating Plan for 2009-10 says interim solutions will be deployed “where there is likely to be a significant delay.”

In NHS Oxfordshire, the Operational Plan for 2009-10 says work has gone on to secure ongoing support for Cerner's Millennium system at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre NHS Trust and that work is also ongoing with BT to assess the options for Millennium at Oxford’s Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust.

NHS Oxfordshire plans to implement RiO for child health and community in 2009. NHS Berkshire West also plans to implement RiO for community services.
