GP2GP hits half a million transfers

More than 500,000 electronic patient records have now been transferred between GP practices using GP2GP software, NHS Connecting for Health has announced.

The achievement of 500,000 record transfers between practices is the latest milestone for the project which covers more than 5,000 GP practices in England.

The scheme currently only involves practices using EMIS LV 5.2 and INPS Vision 3. Latest supplier roadmaps published on the CfH website show that iSoft hopes to achieve GP2GP compliance for its Synergy system by the beginning of September this year and for its Premiere system between January and March 2010.

There are no expected dates for compliance published by Microtest or the two systems using the Read 3 coding system, TPP’s SystmOne and Healthy Software’s Crosscare software.

CfH said the achievement of 500,000 record transfers meant fewer patients had to wait weeks or month for their medical records to reach their new GP practice.

The IT agency said one of the key processes in performing GP2GP transfers was to ensure a correct match for the new patient on the Personal Demographics Service.

It said EMIS and INPS have produced PDS search guides for GP2GP and practices were encouraged to become familiar with the details of the guides. The documents are available from CfH’s GP2GP web pages.
