TPP develops SystmOne Android app

11 January 2012

TPP has started to develop an Android app to allow GPs to work on SystmOne when they are away from their desks.

The company says the tablet app will mean that SystmOne users will be able to access and update patient records when out working in the community and use the system for bedside prescribing.

Using either 3G or wi-fi for connectivity, the app will offer an alternative to the existing SystmOne briefcase functionality, in which a device is used offline and then docked back at the user's office or practice.

TPP said it expected to have the SystmOne Android solution completed and tested within the first half of this year. Following a pilot phase, it will then become available to users via the Android ‘marketplace’.

Access to the app will be through the user’s usual username and password, so nobody will be able to use it unless they are a SystmOne user.

TPP Director Drew Littler said Android development would be essential for 2012. “Android is everywhere at the minute; it’s technology that people use every day,” he said.

“The choice of tablets already available also means that buying hardware will be viable and affordable for the NHS.

“We’re really excited here because we think this Android app will really throw open the world of mobile working for our users, giving them secure access to essential medical information wherever they happen to be working.”
