Great Ormond Street selects JAC for drug management

Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) has signed a contract with JAC Computer Services, a division of US-based Mediware Information Systems, for the provision of medicine management software.

 

The contract will deliver a computerised medicines management system to support the delivery of clinical-care processes associated with the prescribing and administration of medicines to children.

 

Great Ormond Street will use the JAC Medicines Management System, which incorporates First DataBank Europe's drug information database, to support prescribing and medicine stock control. The new system should help improve patient safety through features such as providing clinical alerts on drug interactions.

 

Around 80 NHS trusts already use JAC's Medicine Management software, which features prescribing in real-time, electronic signatures, provision for restrictions and standing orders, and text-based records.

 

Dr Adrian Lloyd-Thomas, consultant anaesthetist as GOSH, said: "As a specialist children's hospital providing ever increasing and complex medical procedures we are forever pushing the boundaries of medical science. The area of children's medicines is constantly stretched to support these advances.

 

"Through this contract we will be able to continue to support medical, nursing, technical staff and patients by providing tools to assist in providing the highest standards in patient care and safety."
