InterSystems has been chosen to provide the software for a national database of patient information being created in Denmark.
The project is based on integrating a variety of different systems across the country to form a National Patient Index.
Integration company Systematic was awarded the contract to carry out the work, and has now subcontracted InterSystems to implement its HealthShare software.
The NPI will not hold any clinical data about patients, but will be coded with information about where the data is stored, and direct users to that information.
It will integrate access to a variety of regional information systems, the Danish National Patient Register, and the Shared Medication Record database.
However, the national system is being developed in collaboration with the inter-regional healthcare journal project, which is working to create an interface to compile the data. The NPI will then feed into that clinical portal.
InterSystems’ vice president, Paul Grabscheid, said the company’s involvement in the project would give it an increased foothold in the Nordic market, following its experience with the Swedish HealthShare NPO project.
“We are very pleased that we have been selected to supply software that is an essential part of the Danish healthcare infrastructure. [The software] provides a flexible approach and will serve as a complement to the existing Danish solutions.”
Meanwhile, vice president at Systematic, Henrik Jespersen, said the InterSystems bid provided two crucial components: “InterSystems HealthShare, a software platform that adheres to international standards, and implementation services that can ensure a successful project.”
