Healthcare IT supplier INPS has announced that NHS Coventry has ordered its Vision 360 clinical data sharing solution.
The primary care trust will use Vision 360 to enable its referral management centre to view detailed patient summaries as part of a referral checking process.
It is also investigating other ways in which it can use the system.
All 17 GP practices in the PCT that use INPS’s Vision 3 clinical system will stream data into a Vision 360 data repository, using locally agreed data sharing agreements.
INPS said authorised clinicians working at the referral management centre will then view detailed patients’ summaries to help make sure that care pathways are cost and care effective.
Dr George Paige, a GP in Coventry and National Vision User Group committee member, said: “I am delighted that Coventry has chosen Vision 360.
"It not only allows Vision 3 practices to pool their data to support GP commissioning, initially with the referrals process, but it also provides a gateway for sharing data with other organisations such as the out-of-hours service and A&E.”
Dr Paige said the system could also be used for data sharing with GP practices using other systems in neighbouring areas as was already happening in other parts of the UK.
Max Brighton, INPS managing director, said it was good to see NHS Coventry using Vision 360 to increase the use of alternative care pathways.
He added: “We now have many local healthcare communities using Vision 360 with success and there is no doubt that patient care is being improved by making detailed summaries of medical records available outside of the registered practice.
“That is why INPS strongly advocates interoperability using existing IT system without forcing GPs to change supplier.”
