iPhone blood pressure monitor launched

5 January 2011   Jon Hoeksma

A new blood pressure monitoring system has been launched that that enables users to track and graph their blood pressure, and then share the information, using their iPod touch, iPhone or iPad.

The iHealth Blood Pressure Monitoring System, launched by iHealth lab Inc, consists a hardware dock and a downloadable mobile application.

The company says it plans to develop a suite of personal healthcare devices designed for the iOS mobile platform

Yi Liu, chief executive of iHealth Lab Inc, said: "The future of health management starts with the individual.

"By identifying how your daily life affects your vitals like blood pressure and heart rate, we believe our product can enable more people to be more proactive about their personal healthcare."

The iHealth Blood Pressure Monitoring System works with iPhone Operating Syststem (iOS) devices to measure and track a patient’s blood pressure and heart rate.

The system comes with a blood pressure arm cuff and a portable, battery-powered dock that makes testing easy. The dock also doubles as a charging station for Apple mobile devices.

The mobile app includes an easy-to-use interface with data and graphics that allows users to check their blood pressure, track it over time, and graph the data to reveal any fluctuations.

Users can call up previously recorded information, see patterns by date and time of day, and customise their data using charts and graphs. They can also electronically share results with your doctor, or your loved ones.

The system is available from US Apple stores for $99.95 and online at Apple.com and iHealth99.com
