Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust has awarded its hospital information system contract to Swedish healthcare systems provider, Cambio.
As first reported by E-Health Insider in January, the trust placed a tender in the Official Journal of European Union for a patient administration system, as well as A&E and e-prescribing functionality.
The trust also required its chosen supplier to be able to demonstrate capabilities in electronic medical records and the ability to automate other hospital processes such as maternity, order communications, theatre management and bed management in a fully integrated way.
At the time, the trust’s director of IM&T, Stephen Dobson, said that it was looking for an interim solution to provide the functionality as it “could no longer wait until Lorenzo reaches a capability beyond where the trust is now.”
However, the trust has now confirmed that Cambio, will replace the trust’s 20 year old iSoft Clinicom PAS, as well as providing A&E and e-prescribing functionality. The move places it firmly outside the National Programme for IT in the NHS.
The trust said in a statement: “As this is a step away from the National Programme, we will not be implementing Lorenzo for HIS functionality.”
The trust already has a relationship with Cambio after implementing its Cosmic Platform to underpin its real time bed management system. This has reduced infection control alert times from six hours to six seconds.
Speaking about the contract award, Dobson added: "We are currently finalising the contract with Cambio and will be making a joint statement with them once the contract is complete, which will probably be early October."
EHI understands that the trust will keep its mature electronic patient record system which is based on Orion Concerto and using XML to put data into the portal.
