West Suffolk Hospitals NHS Trust has completed a refresh of its storage area network with CSA Waverley.
The trust had identified a number of issues with its single site SAN array and wanted to improve business continuity as part of a wider IT strategy.
Working with the trust’s IT team, CSA Waverley implemented a new HP EVA4400 SAN array and added a mirrored infrastructure at a second data centre.
The new infrastructure provides high availability failover, for near-seamless recovery in the event of a disaster. Further benefits include simplified SAN management, saving time and money.
The project team also used a VMWare VMotion virtualised storage environment to support data migration to the new set-up, which was completed with 100% business continuity and service delivery.
Rob Howarth, IT infrastructure manager at West Suffolk Hospital NHS Trust said: “The implementation was delivered on time and with minimum planned disruption, which is key for an organisation such as the trust.
“Our previous SAN had no upgrade path available, so the new infrastructure critically provides flexibility and future proofing.
“Proliferating our storage across two sites has cemented our business continuity plans and will eradicate the extended downtime we used to endure. Our disaster recovery times will improve by over 90%, which is a major boost to our ICT strategy, business continuity and service delivery.”
CSA Waverley is an infrastructure specialist that has worked with the NHS for more than 25 years.
