Companies develop BI for RiO

CSE Healthcare Systems has partnered with health IT consultants, Apira, to develop a business intelligence platform within RiO.

The new product, which is named Acumen, will be developed by CSE and implemented by Apira. CSE already provides the community and mental health product RiO to the NHS, through London and South local service provider BT.

Geoff Broome, director of Apira, told E-Health Insider: “We have observed trusts while working with them and found that reporting is becoming ever more important. 

"However, there are a number of challenges in getting sustainable, accurate reports within a pure in-house model.”

The companies say that once the product is fully developed it will combine data from multiple sources to support NHS policy and business agendas.

Broome added: “We intend to provide a robust, extensible business intelligence platform which gives them a product that will deliver needs on commissioning, needs on compliance, and needs on quality agendas.

“The product will stay in step with any changes in RiO, enabling robust and accurate reporting to be maintained and as national requirements evolve.”

The first release of the product will be marketed separately to RiO and is expected to be available by the end of 2010. The deployment work will be undertaken by Apira, supported by CSE.

Sue Hawkswell, managing director of CSE, added: “CSE’s strategy and unique proposition is to deliver a reporting product that shares a developmental synergy with RiO which is able to closely track and evolve with new and upcoming functionality and requirements.”

RiO is already deployed in seven out of ten mental health trusts in London and 29 out of 32 PCTs. Last week BT exclusively told E-Health Insider that it had also completed the deals for 25 additional sites in the South of England.
