George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust has become the latest to roll-out a single sign-on system from Imprivata.
The implementation of OneSign has provided more than 700 of clinical staff with a single point of secure authentication, so they can access medical information - including laboratory pathology, radiology and PACS applications - using a single password.
James Norman, associate director of IM&T at the trust, said: “We required a solution that was proven within the NHS, is cost-effective and can streamline how medical staff access applications and data whilst providing the right levels of security.
“With OneSign Single Sign-On, clinicians can get to the data they need with minimum fuss, helping the trust deliver better levels of care to our patients.”
Before the system was implemented, clinicians who were locked out of the system experienced 15-20 minutes of downtime before passwords could be reset locally. The effort of resetting passwords also put strain on the IT department.
The solution, which is live on all of the hospital wards, allows IT staff to quickly grant and revoke user access to applications, as well as allowing designated users to reset passwords locally via a simple web-based self-service function.
OneSign is now in use at more than 75 trusts across the UK and Ireland. The George Eliot system was delivered though Imprivata’s reseller agreement with BMS.
