Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has gone live with surgical, anaesthesia, recovery room and critical care software solutions from Picis.
The trust signed a contract with Picis late in 2008 after the trust’s chief executive, Andrew Morris, went to see the system in action at William Osler Centre in Canada.
It purchased eight modules including Picis Theatre Manager, SmarTrack, PACU manager, Anaesthesia Manager, Critical Care Manager, Extelligence OR, Extelligence Anaesthesia and Picis Perioperative Dashboard.
Jonathan Spinks, head of IT at Frimley Park said: “We’ve had great faith in Picis from the moment we made the decision to install their software. Integration with other systems, such as our pathology systems and the iSoft Patient Centre, has been successful too.”
The trust hopes that the solution will optimise the use of nursing staff, supplies and operating theatre schedules as well as its clinical care processes, and that the analytics tools will allow performance to measured and analysed to encourage best practice.
Liz Popovich, co-founder and executive vice president of international operations at Picis said: “Over the coming months, management, staff and patients at Frimley Park can expect to see the kind of benefits that only a specialised information system can help bring to high-acuity care areas of the hospitals.”
Picis is best known in the UK for signing an agreement in 2006 with BT to deliver operating theatre management systems to six hospital trusts in London under the National Programme for IT in the NHS.
The company successfully completed its deployment across The Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust, St Mary’s NHS Trust, Kingston Hospital NHS Trust, Mayday Healthcare NHS Trust, Barking, Havering and Redbridge Hospitals NHS Trust and the Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Trust in December 2007.
