Oasis Medical Solutions announced today that its eponymous electronic patient record system has been successfully deployed at Benenden Hospital Trust.
The independent hospital has reported a smooth go-live with no disruption to hospital services. The go-live happened on schedule, just nine months after the contract was awarded.
Although the EPR system was configured and delivered by December, rather than go-live early the hospital decided that it would be more valuable to spend the extra time available on vital work in data conversion and training.
Denise Telford, head of clinical services said: “This new system is the foundation of all our operations for years to come. Getting our training and deployment right and not rushing unnecessarily is more important than trying to beat the original ambitious but achievable dates.”
Richard Moxon director of sales and marketing at Oasis said: “Customer satisfaction is hugely important to us. When we learnt that Benenden was not entirely comfortable with the accelerated timetable, we worked with them immediately to revert to the original plan.”
Benenden Hospital is an independent hospital based in Cranbrook, Kent, which offers treatment to member’s of its parent organisation, The Benenden Healthcare Society. The hospital also provides services to NHS patients who choose to be treated there through the Patient Choice programme.
The hospital signed a five year contract with Oasis Medical Solutions in June 2008 to implement a new patient record system.
Benenden decided to switch to Oasis from its existing ten-year old PAS due to an increase in NHS business as part of the Choose and Book. The Oasis EPR system is directly integrated with the national appointment booking system.
Chris Spence, chief executive at Oasis, who joined the company from GE Healthcare in January, said he has been impressed by the way the supplier and customer worked together. “Benenden is an independent hospital and had a free choice of both product and systems. They made sure that their people were closely involved at all stages of system selection and implementation.”
Earlier this month Benenden was awarded overall top healthcare employer in UK by Top 100 Healthcare awards. The hospital won a total of six awards at the event.
EHI will later this month report from the hospital trust on the system in action.
