South Central Ambulance Service NHS Trust has selected McKesson Shared Services to support its HR and payroll functions.
The deal will give the trust first-line support for administration tasks associated with using the NHS Electronic Staff Record (ESR), which McKesson provides to the health service under a Department of Health contract.
Natalie Edwards, the trust’s ESR and IM&T programme manager: “It really matters to us that our staff get paid accurately and on time, particularly where shift work is concerned. If someone has worked a twelve hour shift involving a crisis or emergency that has meant extended hours, it is paramount that this is reflected accurately in their salary.”
She added that the deal should improve data quality, allow HR and payroll staff to focus on strategic issues and development and open up career development opportunities for managers, who will be able to use the Manager Direct Access and Oracle Learning Management functions of the system.
McKesson completed implementation of the ESR in England and Wales in April this year is now liaising with trusts to encourage them to use McKesson Shared Services for back office tasks.
Charmaine McDonald, UK managing director of McKesson, said: “The inception of McKesson Shared Services has enabled us to unlock the potential of the ESR system by providing an end-to-end service; whereby we are responsible for the system, all data and outputs.
“This service is a safe solution for our customers and allows us to deliver tangible service and efficiency improvements.”
