King Fahd Medical City uses Orion’s Rhapsody
The King Fahd Medical City (KFMC) in Saudi Arabia has adopted the Rhapsody Integration Engine to provide faster and more reliable communication between its computer systems from Orion Health. KFMC is a 1400-bed multi-hospital healthcare complex, and is one of the Kingdom's largest healthcare providers.
Ideal Training provide training for West Somerset Cerner Millennium deployment
Ideal Training has successfully supported a Cerner Millennium go-live at Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust by providing a team of ten floor walkers. The Trust went live at Musgrove Park Hospital and some of the local community hospitals (known as West Somerset Family) with Millennium release 0 in mid December.
Quest improves Rotherham PCT security
Rotherham PCT has installed Quest Software's ActiveRoles Server and Quick Connect in an attempt to improve security and increase efficiency. Derek Stowe, IT infrastructure manager at Rotherham PCT, said: “We are already seeing a return on investment. If you look at time spent creating an account, the administration connected with that as well as all the information passing back and forth between different people at different levels of the organisation, then this system, has really sped things up.”
CDEX and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust announce partnership deal
CDEX has announced a new partnership cooperation with the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London to test ValiMed in the Hammersmith and Charing Cross hospitals and to work together in developing new medication signatures including chemotherapy and cytostatic drugs. The ValiMed Medication Validation System uses Enhanced Photoemission Spectroscopy to quickly validate high-risk medication admixtures, as well as returned narcotics, to provide an increased level of patient safety.
Product launches
Three new bedside terminals from JAOtech
JAOtech has launched a portfolio of three new terminals specifically designed to address the hospital patient entertainment terminal market. The JAOtech terminals were conceived around UL60601 requirements, and feature anti-bacterial plastics and a noiseless design. Based around PC technology with a range of different processor options, JAOtech terminals can be run on Linux and Windows and are compatible with all major PC applications.
Awards
Aberdeen eye software shortlisted for Scottish award
Professor Peter Sharp and Dr John Olson have been nominated for the Scottish Health Innovations award for Best Innovation Originating from NHS Scotland. They have developed software to assess eye disease in diabetic patients. Their computerised version is estimated to save Scotland's NHS up to £500,000 per year and will be marketed this year. The awards will be presented at the annual Scottish Enterprise Scottish Life Sciences Awards on 7 February in Edinburgh.

Agfa Cardiology Team bolstered by new appointment
Mark O’Herlihy has been appointed sales consultant cardiovascular within Agfa HealthCare’s Imaging and Informatics Business Unit. In his new role, Mark will be helping hospitals to further streamline their Cardiology Departments by installing customized, fully integrated, cardiovascular IT solutions.
