Worcestershire goes live with portal

24 November 2011   Shanna Crispin

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust has gone live with a clinical portal from Orion Health – the key foundation for creating an integrated electronic patient record.

The trust signed a contract with Oasis last week for a ten year contract to deploy an integrated EPR – Oasis OneView.

It will use Orion Health’s Concerto portal as the entry point into information consolidated from the trust’s chosen ‘best-of-breed’ systems.

The trust’s director of ICT, John Thornbury, said the portal go-live was a key milestone in the strategy to build the integrated EPR.

“The appropriate sharing of information across the region will allow clinicians, both in the hospital and in the community, to treat patients based on shared knowledge,” Thornbury said.

While the portal is an Orion Health product, the company’s managing director for UK and Ireland, Colin Henderson, said much of the work had been carried out by the trust itself.

“One of the most impressive aspects of the Worcestershire Clinical Portal is that the trust has completed much of the work on their own," he said.

"[This] shows that value-add technology solutions do not necessarily require a large and potentially expensive supplier programme team.”

The OneView contract is a collaborative package including systems from Bluespier, Oasis, Orion Health and also NoemaLife’s Galileo electronic prescribing system – which will be the company’s first UK deployment.
