Five PCTs pick MedeAnalytics' CC

Five PCTs in the East of England have awarded a contract to MedeAnalytics to provide them with its Clinical Commissioner software to provide commissioning support information.

The cohort of PCTs, NHS South East Essex, NHS South West Essex, NHS Norfolk, NHS Bedfordshire and NHS Hertfordshire, will use MedeAnalytics’ Clinical Commissioner for invoice validation service and performance analytics.

The software, which will draw data systems from across the group of PCTs, will be used as part of the development of commissioning capabilities by the five PCTs as they move towards becoming a Clinical Commissioning Group.

The software provides a suite of locally adaptable reporting capabilities, including modules for primary care, acute services, claims validation and the management of long term conditions. It takes data from multiple sources including prescription pricing, contracting and GP systems.

The cohort of East of England PCTs will use the analytics software to help monitor utilization and ensure accurate payment for services.

Simon Rollason, program manager for the East of England PCT cohort, said, "At its core, our aim is to improve the quality of clinical care in the region while reducing costs. All of us want to spend less time on data management and more time on actually using the information and the intelligence it gives us to make better informed clinical and pathway decisions for our health economies."

The PCTs went to market in spring 2011 to evaluate solutions that would draw data from information systems across the group and provide the insight they needed.

Having done due diligence with Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) and GPs involved MedeAnalytics' solution was selected as providing the most comprehensive capabilities that would both meet the trusts' immediate needs for improved invoice validation, together with ongoing insight and intelligence to support clinical and pathway decisions.

In June MedeAnalytics launched the Clinical Commissioner tool with Bexley Care Trust, which has been involved in practice based commissioning for four years.
