The government has promised to give patients access to their records by 2015. This is the place to discuss the idea and how we can build on access to solve real problems facing the NHS and patients.

Patient commenting via the electronic record

Upon starting this group, I asked members if they had any thoughts on the concept of offering patient commenting facility through electronic health records to contribute to a short study.

I am interested in getting a view on what level of access mental health service users should have. many service users want full access, including the narrative and some would like to be able to edit the narrative or make corrections.

Patient want online access to services

I think the idea of patient access to their records has to be part of the future of the future patient-centred health services. But I'm also convinced that it is the ability to do things - order prescription refills, view test results, book appointments or email their GP - that is what patients most want.

Could/Should patients be able to comment on healthcare services thorugh their Electronic Record?

I'm Roxanne Asadi, Project Manager at NHS Choices. I am working on a study for the Department of Health looking into the feasibility of allowing patients to feed back on their care via their on-line medical record.

Please introduce yourselves

My name is Lyn Whitfield and I'm managing editor of eHealth Insider. I've just set up this group for debate about the idea of patient access to records, the technology that exists - or should exist - for giving people access to records, and the problems that access might solve for both the NHS and users.
