On the night, the overall award went to Logica for its Defence Medical Information Capability Programme, which had earlier won the ‘excellence in major healthcare IT development’ category. The programme has created a single healthcare record for all members of the armed forces, using the EMIS PCS and System C Medway systems in use in GP practices and acute trusts.

Meanwhile, the ever more popular and more fiercely contested Healthcare IT Champion of the Year award was won by Neil Darvill, director of health informatics at St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The nomination said he was both “knowledgeable and approachable” and that he had engaged staff in “the unglamorous side of creating good-quality infrastructure and support.”

Visitors to EHI Live 2012 will be able to hear more from many of the finalists and winners, who will be speaking at a free awards theatre at the show. Registration for the event is open now, and we hope to see you there.
