Enterprise scheduling: transforming healthcare and meeting financial challenges
The NHS faces mounting financial pressures, yet the government is determined to see improvements in the quality of care, even as demand continues to rise.
Scheduling technology is a key area in which iSOFT, a CSC company, is demonstrating that innovation and healthcare transformation can help. Already established across Europe, its enterprise scheduling solution, UltraGenda, is now gathering momentum in the UK.
Andrew Broadway, enterprise scheduling manager, explains how the system holds information about the resources required for a particular activity, sets rules for who can book them and for how long, and builds schedules that make sure the right patient sees the right person in the right place with the right information and equipment at the right time.
As trusts such as Heart of England have shown, UltraGenda encourages innovation by supporting a more joined-up approach to care, giving clinicians the information they need to effectively manage their own clinics and diaries, and helping them keep patient pathways on track.
Heart of England has seen UltraGenda transform some services. For example, it has enabled the pharmacy at Heartlands Hospital to work with the onsite branch of Boots to set up and run a much-valued medication delivery service to patients.
It has enabled the Sleep Clinic at the same hospital to see more patients without increasing staff hours or numbers. And it has transformed the day to day bed management at one of Good Hope Hospital’s busiest day case wards.
