Conference programme

If you only get to one conference this year, EHI Live has to be the one, with its terrific programme covering the broad spectrum of healthcare IT issues in the UK.

The full programme and timings are being confirmed. But the conference will once again have some of the top names in the sector, including:

Katie Davis, director general and managing director - NHS Informatics at the Department of Health, who will be delivering a keynote speech as the closing address.

Rory Cellan-Jones, the BBC’s technology correspondent, who will chair the opening day of the conference and share his thoughts on the top trends to watch in the technology sector.

Paul Corrigan, respected health commentator and author of the widely-followed Health Matters blog, who will share his views on how health informatics fits into the bigger picture of 21st century healthcare.

Mohammad Al-Ubaydli, founder and chief executive of Patients Know Best, who is on a mission to give every patient better tools to manage their health.

Tim Kelsey, the government’s 'transparency tsar' and an outspoken advocate for the development of consumer information strategies in public services.

Julie Moore, chief executive of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, who will give a view from the top of one of the largest teaching hospitals in the country on the latest reforms and information strategy.

Professor Jeremy Wyatt, co-director of the Warwick Digital Health Laboratory and former R&D director at NICE, who will discuss the 'promises and pitfalls of summarising the evidence on e-health.'

In addition to the paid for conference programme, EHI Live 2011 will offer a number of key features in the free exhibition, that has already attracted more than 100 healthcare IT suppliers. These will include:

The EHI Awards showcase: presentations from winners and finalists in the EHI Awards 2010 in association with BT. Topics will include technology support for 24/7 stroke thrombolysis; the design, development and implementation of the PICS clinical decision support system in Birmingham; and experiences of using a life-saving bedside observation recognition and alerting system.

Best Practice Showcase, sponsored by Carefx: this popular feature from previous shows has been expanded to highlight some of the great work going on in UK healthcare IT and to give visitors the chance to meet people from NHS trusts working at the cutting edge of innovation and implementation.

Another feature of EHI Live 2011 is the Royal College of Radiologists’ Imaging Informatics Group Autumn Meeting, which is co-located with the show for the second time. The group will be organising a lively programme focused on the IT and information management supporting medical imaging.

With so much debate about the next generation of PACS/RIS and improving technology for integrating images with the whole patient record, this is a great opportunity to update knowledge in this vital area. The meeting is open to all conference registrants, not just group members, and the organisers welcome non-members.
