Seeing is believing: England's PACS/RIS market refresh

30 Aug 2012

New research from EHI Intelligence reveals that digital imaging in NHS hospitals in England is about to go through two waves of change.

The report focuses on the options that trusts are pursuing ahead of the end of the national programme contracts, and what the future is likely to hold for incumbent suppliers and new entrants.

Key findings

  • Trusts will be looking to take one of three main options for the procurement of new systems.
  • A number of trusts that haven’t already tendered will be looking to take a tactical approach over the next two years, before looking for new systems.
  • There will be a second wave of activity in the market at least as big as the current one.
  • There will be more collaboration, with smaller trusts looking to work with larger neighbours to save money and to support patient flows.
  • The incumbent suppliers will face a real challenge to retain their current positions and there will be room for smaller players to increase their market share and for new suppliers to enter the market.

The research included in-depth interviews with 12 IT directors, radiology consultants, radiology systems managers and PACS procurement leads at NHS trusts in England, interrogation of the EHI Intelligence NHS Trust Database and analysis of relevant tenders placed within the past ten months.

The Seeing is believing: England’s PACS/RIS market refresh report is available for purchase for £995 + VAT as a stand-alone report, or as part of a subscription to EHI Intelligence.

  • Save marketing and sales resources
  • Win new business
