Having had the chance to read the information strategy through one of the questions I'm left with is -- what is it with portals? The strategy at various points alights on them as a silver bullet for patient access and 'integrating' clinical systems. Why the obsession with portals? For true integration between health and social care at least as strong a case could be made for health integration exchnages. Clinical data repositories or vendor neutral archives also offer a lot of capabilities.

ITK and ITK2 obviously had a lot of work done as well and there are a good range of proven integration platforms out there too.
