The government and the Future Forum seem to have the bit between their collective teeth on the issue of patient access to records (see today's news www.ehi.co.uk/K488F ">EHI News)
What kind of priority should patient access to records have given that there are so many other issues requiring the NHS' attention and resources?
What I don't understand is why the Govt is so dead set on this idea when it is not something being pushed for by patients or clinicians?
I'm not saying I don't agree with the idea, but I certainly don't think the benefits have been adequately explained or demonstrated to GPs.
Unless patients demand it or an incentive scheme is put in place, I don't see this being a top priority when GPs have so many other things on their plate.
However, I'm sure booking appointments, ordering repeat prescriptions and checking test results online will soon become common place.
